After sustaining a concussion in training with the USMNT, Sporting Kansas City star defender Matt Besler is likely to return against FC Dallas in an early season battle between two western conference heavyweights. FC Dallas, which has continued it’s run of good form of last season, leads the Sporting by a couple points at the top of the conference. FCD is on a pretty good roll after beating up on the injured Timbers while the Sporting dropped a game earlier in the week to the surprising Colorado Rapids. SKC though has had a lot of injuries, not just Besler, and is almost certainly getting scoring maven Dom Dwyer back into the starting striker position. First, the details:

Besler misses something very badly but we’re not sure what

Besler, who is better known for turning down the English Premier League than his stealth flowerless baking skills (unverified), got popped in the noggin almost a month back and has had to miss three SKC games and a USMNT matchup as a result. He told the MLS website “When something gets taken away from you, and it’s not in your control, you realize how much you miss it.” (from Was he talking about soccer or a long lost love? This is how I felt when I had to stop eating Taco Bell Cheesy Gordita Crunch’s so frequently due to apparent health risks (still have a hard time believing THIS would hurt anyone). It’s a deep soul-hole that is only filled by finding another love, so I hope Besler one day finds his. Unless he’s talking about soccer in which case he’s supposed to be back this week and he’ll be okay.

FC Dallas’ three musketeers

Maxi Urruti, Michael Barrios and Tesho Akindele cannot stop scoring.  They all have at least three goals. Urruti in particular has been effective disrupting the defensive backline of FCD opposition and creating opportunities for the trio. If FCD also gets Mauro Diaz back, the creative opportunity maker who has 4 assists despite missing the last three games, it’s going to be trouble for SKC. Look out for an all out barrage of scruffy play from these three while they try to disrupt and hassle SKC’s back four.

dom dwyer scores goals. that’s what dom dwyer does

The 25 year old striker, who spanked in 34 goals in the last two seasons for SKC and already has 4 goals this year and 2 assists (as many as he had all last season), will almost definitely be starting against FCD on Sunday. They will definitely need him to produce as FCD is very good at getting on the board. Look for Dwyer to be making runs in between FCD center backs Hedges and Zimmerman and collecting balls from the juicy Zusi.

Hotfooty score prediction: FC Dallas 2-2 Sporting Kansas City

The home side is bound to get a couple goals with how talented their attack is but I think with Dwyer going to be back in the starting lineup and wanting to make up for their frustrating attack form against Colorado they will get themselves into the game.

Dom Dwyer plays well with others against Real Salt Lake. They’re going to need more of this against a persnickety FC Dallas squad
